Sealed hygiene

Protection against infection and resident safety are of great importance for the inpatient care of our elderly fellow citizens in our region – six further facilities can now prove this in blue on white and framed: On 05.12.2019 the foundation euPrevent awarded the third old people’s home seal to St. Lambertus Altenheim der Lambertus gGmbH in Hückelhoven, Haus Beatrix in Geilenkirchen, Katharina-Kasper-Heim in Gangelt and to three facilities of the nursing service Kuijpers in Heinsberg (Haus Elisabeth), in Wassenberg (Haus am Waldrand) and in Erkelenz-Kückhoven (Haus St. Josef). Already in 2016, nursing homes for the elderly on the German side of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine were awarded the second nursing home seal of approval.

In order to obtain the seal, each of the participating institutions from the region had to undergo an inspection within the framework of an inspection. The ten quality objectives to be met include, for example, compliance with cleaning and disinfection plans in residential areas, hand hygiene for staff, but also participation in networks for the exchange of experience and knowledge, regular training and further education and the handling of antibiotics.

Experts – mostly from the health authorities of the Euregio-Maas-Rhine – check compliance with the specifications and implementation in the nursing homes for the elderly and then decide on the basis of defined criteria whether the house meets the requirements for the coveted seal. The seal for the nursing homes for the elderly has thus already entered the third stage. The requirements of the euPrevent nursing home seal are adapted to the current state of science and research, the seal is valid for three years. They can also be consulted on the Foundation’s website at www.euprevent.eu.

During an official event in the small meeting room of the Heinsberg district administration, the seal was ceremonially presented to the six above-mentioned institutions by the Chairman of the Board of the euPrevent EMR Foundation, Dr. med. Karl-Heinz Feldhoff. Feldhoff thanked the representatives of the nursing homes for their commitment and concluded: “In your facilities residents and relatives can be sure that the measures for hygiene and infection protection are always adhered to”.
