The number of children growing up in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine (EMR) in a stressful parenting situation has increased in recent decades. There already exist several succesful interventions in the EMR for children growing up in stressful situations. Within REHAC, the partners informed each other extensively about the interventions already used. The interventions ‘Wir2’ (DE), ‘Piep’ (NL) and ‘Op reis met Kriebel’ (BE) were considered an enrichment for other regions in the EMR. The frameworks of these interventions will be described, translated and made available across the border.

During a Training for trainers, professionals in the EMR can learn the essence of the intervention ‘Wir2’ and how to use it in their own work environment. By performing this training in a euregional setting, professionals also get the chance to broaden their network and exchange experiences with colleges from other regions.
Every year 160,000 children in Germany experience the separation of their parents. Every fifth child grows up with only one parent – 90% with the mother. Most of the family life is har-monisch. However, numerous studies have consistently shown economic and health disadvantages for single parents. This group has been shown to have an increased risk of mental and chronic psychosomatic diseases.
This is exactly where wir2 come in as parent training for single parents with children aged three to ten. The structured group programme is based on developmental psychology and is particularly dedicated to experiencing and dealing with feelings.
The main goals are: Establishing Balance – Building Bond – Strengthening Relationships. This is achieved through the proven strengthening of parental self-confidence and intuitive parent competences.
The wir2-groups are carried out with single parents on the basis of a detailed manual by a couple of group leaders specially trained by the wir2-team. The training includes 20 weekly group sessions of 90 minutes each. Crucial and special to us2 is the emotion-centered group process, which is deepened through relationship-building exercises with the child at home. During the training, childcare is provided which, like the entire training, is free of charge for single parents.
wir2 has proven itself in practice: The sustainable effectiveness of wir2 on parental well-being, as well as an improvement in the psychological stress consequences for single parents, a strengthening of their emotional skills, stress management, relaxation in everyday life and positive effects on the behaviour of their children have been successfully evaluated. Most single parents are more confident than before according to the program. And: Their success is also reflected in the well-being of their children.
wir2 – Binding training for single parents is a binding support program of the Walter Blüchert Foundation, developed at the University of Düsseldorf under the scientific direction of Prof. Dr. Matthias Franz.

On June 6th the training will be given from 10h untill 12.30h.
During a Training for trainers, professionals in the EMR can learn the essence of the intervention ‘Op reis met Kriebel’ and how to use it in their own work environment. By performing this training in a euregional setting, professionals also get the chance to broaden their network and exchange experiences with colleges from other regions.
Studies indicate that psychological and/or dependency problems in one or both parents are a serious burden on the mental health of the children. In the literature it is said that about one in three children can also develop psychiatric problems later on. (Adriaenssens, 1997 and Baan 1998). It is very important to support these children and parents preventively and to give counsellors tools to pay attention to this theme. This is to prevent these children from developing problems themselves. We do this by reducing risk factors and by installing/strengthening protective factors.
The parent is the gateway to the child. If you call the client to account for his role as a parent, you automatically pay attention to the child. In other words, care for the child starts in adult care. Moreover, you strengthen the client by talking to him or her about his or her parental role and not only focusing on the limitations caused by the psychological and/or dependency problems.
Op reis met Kriebel is a suitcase, that is used to encourage children, parents and social workers to go on a prevention journey.
On the one hand, the case contains a model (COPMI* prevention interview/COPMI-Care) in which tools are provided to talk to parents about their children. On the other hand, we offer a map with 8 themes/countries that the counsellor can visit with parents and children.
*) COPMI = Children of Parents with Mental Illness
Regardless of the background or training of the care worker, you can work with the contents of the suitcase.
On June 6th the training will be given from 10h untill 12.30h.
During the mini conference the results of the project will be presented:
The 3 interventions will be briefly explained.
The REHAC partners will also present a bilingual toolkit with ‘to do’s’ and successful euregional interventions for professionals in the EMR.
The project ‚Reduce Harm for Children‘ is possible thanks to funding from the People to People project Interreg V-A Euregio Meuse-Rhine and support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the framework of the Interreg V A programme EMR.
