Up- and downscaling public health projects? Of course – but how?

There is no doubt: identifying and disseminating examples of good practice and implementing respective projects and policies at the regional and local level are important for progress in public health. But how to transfer public health projects successfully from one region to another, from a local project to the regional or even national level, or how to implement a national program into a regional / local context? Share your experiences – successful project transfers as well as challenges and obstacles – with each other and with the Regions for Health Network of the WHO Europe!
The Euregio Meuse-Rhine, as a member of the WHO Region for Health Network and the WHO Region for Health Network itself like to invite you to a workshop on ‘What to do to successfully upscale or downscale a project in my or another region? The workshop will be hosted by the Euregio Meuse-Rhine and organized with Maastricht University, the Landeszentrum Gesundheit NRW in their function as WHO Regions for Health Network (RHN) members and the WHO RHN itself.

Goal
In preparation of the workshop, a survey among e.g. policy makers, project managers and local, regional and national authorities within the public health sector, has been conducted to identify examples of good practice and obstacles for the up- and downscaling of projects. Based on the results of the survey, the workshop will promote the exchange of expertise concerning successful upscaling and downscaling of projects, activities or initiatives.
Desired outcomes
In general it is planned that the workshop will provide input for WHO RHN report concerning up- and downscaling of projects, initiatives and activities.
The specific outcomes of the workshop should be:
- A list of factors that promote or hinder the successful upscaling or downscaling of projects, activities or initiatives.
- A list of practical recommendations for upscaling and downscaling of projects, activities or initiatives.
- An outline for a WHO RHN report and a list of case studies that could be included in the report.
Target group
In general the target group are all the professionals that have experience and an interest in upscaling or downscaling projects, activities or initiatives in the public health setting. In practice most likely this will be the group of:
- (regional, local) project managers
- regional and local public health authorities
- scientific staff: of universities or colleagues
- regional and local managers in general
